Julie Matson is a Vancouver-born, Montreal-based, sound artist, writer, and musician dedicated to exploring the aural relationships of difficulty, language, and beauty. Echo Beach is her conduit for coaxing musical sounds out of electronics within a full sound spectrum of genre-bending electronic pneumatics. Through her work, she creates soundscapes of layered synthesis with atmospheric droney electronic melodies that lull you into a dreamy haze. Combining technology and the art of handmade gestures, she adds a level of intention, care, and connection that is often lost in the transmission of synthesis. Analog synths and effects pedals, coupled with poetic arrangements and experimental drifts and peaks meld different worlds of music into a definitive style, distinguishing Echo Beach apart from other contemporary projects, letting the collage of sound take the listener on a journey to their inner-most sanctuary.
Echo Beach’s appearance is made possible thanks to the support of CALQ (Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec).
